Beauty Standards Through The Years

Let’s start with the 90’s. The 90’s was the beginning of the high of supermodels. Kate Moss was introduced to the fashion world and changed the game for a lot of models as she looked different to the models society had been seeing. With her wide set eyes, very small and skinny figure. Standing at 1.7m, she very quickly caused a lot of controversy surrounding her weight and looks. The look for the 90’s was skinny, long legs, blowouts and a pop of colour on the lid followed by a liner that followed exactly the line of the lips that was darker then the gloss that sat on top.
The early 2010’s beauty consisted of a bright lip, neon colours like pink, green and yellow and crazy haircuts, that could be seen in trendy music videos. We saw colourful hair dyes and pixie cuts half shaved. The later 2010’s consisted of a bold eyebrow and big lips (lip filler) with a lip that was preferably matt. A strong highlighter and big false lashes with a cut crease. BBL’s (Brazilian Butt Lift) were very popular during this time thanks to the Kardashian / Jenner family.
Now in the 2020’s we see many different styles of makeup and a lot of botox. These different styles of makeup are, Latina makeup, Douyin makeup, ABG makeup, baddie makeup and clean girl makeup. blowouts and layers are seen to be popular again. Every little hair colour and style now has a name to it, thanks to social media. and botox and filler are seen to be very normalised and the age of acquiring these transformations are younger than they would’ve been in past years.
In the early 2000’s we saw very similar styles and looks to the late 90’s. pin straight hair or blowout with layers were very in. highlights and bangs were trending, with a dark eye and light pink or clear gloss.
