Tik Tok Influencers, Influencing Fashion

Tik Tok, founded in 2016, is a social media app where individuals can post videos of themselves doing really anything. The app has taken over the world and now has over 1 billion active users, being ranked number 2 in entertainment on the app store.
Tik tok has caused much controversy over many important topics around the world, such as, politics, wars, gender equality and gender laws, the economic state and fashion. Influencers on the app are in complete control when it comes to making new trends and making products go viral. With saying this, majority of the influencers you see on Tik Tok are beauty, fashion, health and wellbeing influencers. A really big fashion and beauty influencer seen on the app today is, Alix Earl. Alix Earl a big face on the app, has recently worn skinny jeans in one of her Tik Toks and now has started a fuss on the app as to whether or not we are binging skinny jeans back. A lot of females on the app are saying we need to be more original and more ourselves where some females are just wanting to follow the trend. Over the years Tik Tok has been the cause for this generations many different fazes, eras and aesthetics.
In 2019 we saw visco girls, high rise mum jeans, colourful cardigans and Nike airforce. Skinny jeans, scrunchies and graphic baggy tees. during this time was when Tik Tok stars like Charli Damelio and Addison Rae were very popular showcasing their style and aesthetics. In 2020 we brought out more colours and patterns. Cow and zebra print on not only our clothes but our bedrooms walls. Lockdown caused a lot of individuals on the app to express more freely on how they dress and what they’re into. In 2021 we brought back low rise jeans and baby tees, aswell as a little cami top, "the coconut girl” trend. Pastel colours, references to y2k and patterns that stood out. When 2022 came around a lot of individuals had found their own style, but there was an aesthetic called “clean girl” was introduced. Wearing whites, pinks and beiges with no patterns and doing minimal makeup or makeup that looked dewy meant you looked clean. In 2023 we brought back kitten heels and saw a number of females on the app showing their ‘going out’ outfits where kitten heels and a good pair of jeans were the main part of your outfit. Don’t forget the slick back bun. Now coming around to this year and the many fashion trends Tik Tok has seen. For winter we have seen big faux fur coats and boots. as for going out. This year we have seen an outburst of cheetah and leopard print. leopard print was not only trending with clothing garments but with phone cases, shoes, bags and more. This meant it was seen in many fast fashion stores online and in store.
Now, what does Tik Tok have to with any of this? Tik Tok is one of the most influential apps that the world has today. Some people have an addiction to the app, that can cause such a heavy influence on their day to day life, as you can see by the many videos that pop up on your for you page, with individuals opening their video with. “I saw this girl on Tik Tok with… So i just had to buy it.” Before we had Tik Tok influencers we had celebrities. Society looked up to celebrities to see what was trending and what was not. Now. Celebrities are following in the footsteps of these influencers to see what the kids are wearing and whats trending.
For as long as Tik Tok is as big as it is now and influencers are making videos about what is trending and not. There will always be a hint of unoriginality and we, as a society will always be watching those with a following to see if we want to wear it or not.
