Men and their impact on the fashion industry

A lot of individuals that are not apart of high fashion society or into fashion in general, don’t think of men when they hear the word ‘fashion’. Designers such as Lee Alexander (Alexander McQueen), John Galliano, Christian Dior, Christian Louboutin have paved the way for a lot of designers today and changed the look of fashion for both men and women.
Earlier couture and earlier fashion was predominantly created by men, for example Christian Dior. Dior crafted many couture gowns and saw much success and still does. A lot of creative directors for big fashion houses today are men. Why is that? Well, Men hold a lot of ‘power’ and would prefer to pass down that power to another man, someone similar. Someone that looks like them.
Now not all creative directors and designers have this mind set, but there is a large sum of them. In todays society there is just as many men as there are women who are in the fashion scene. In todays society there are many different aesthetics and styles for both men and women. However. There is a lot more diversity for mens fashion now than there ever has been. Big fashion houses like Gucci going coed in their fashion shows is a brilliant way to gain a more diverse and bigger market. This is because men in todays society do not shy away from mixing masculine and feminine garments together. Although this has been happening for a number of years, it is very popular in todays society as there is a substantial amount of clothing brands now then there has ever been.
Social media also plays a huge part in why mens fashion is now more diverse than we've ever seen. If you scroll through social media you will see may different styles and aesthetics for men. For example. Basketball players in the NBA and their outfits they wear when showing up to their games. Dressed up in high fashion and having their own individual looks and styles, these men influence the male population to stand out more with their outfits and embrace difference.
